Open Letter of Support for Boston Symphony Orchestra Musicians

To Whom It May Concern:

The undersigned, including the leadership of the American Federation of Musicians, stands in full support of the musicians of the Boston Symphony Orchestra during the transition at the organization following the departure of music director Andris Nelsons, a decision made without consulting the musicians in the orchestra.

The musicians of the Boston Symphony Orchestra are incredibly hard-working and talented people who make the institution a worldwide cultural destination and are responsible for generating more than $260 million in economic activity in the region.

It’s critical that the musicians of the Boston Symphony Orchestra remain supported and respected during this leadership transition. As leadership sets a new path forward, musicians should be included in the artistic decisions, especially decisions involving how the future will take shape. Because when the musicians are consulted and supported by management, they can give their best performances for the Boston Symphony Orchestra subscribers, night after night.

We stand in full support of the musicians

 during this leadership transition.

Sincerely,

Tino Gagliardi, International President
American Federation of Musicians of the US and Canada
