A Labor Day Message from AFM President Tino Gagliardi

Dear AFM Member,

We celebrate Labor Day because musicians and other workers joined together to demand better working conditions. Our work in the labor movement has become exponentially more challenging. We face a continuously evolving landscape, with new technologies, economic pressures, and political challenges that threaten the rights and security of workers.

“Workers deserve the freedom, fairness, and security that come with a union.” This is not just a slogan; it’s the fundamental principle that drives every negotiation, contract, and campaign. We must continue to stand together, as musicians and as part of the broader labor movement, to protect past gains and secure a better future for everyone.

Many of us think of Labor Day as the unofficial end of summer, but it’s important to remember the true meaning of the day: Labor Day is a reminder that we owe our rights and protections to labor unions who fought for them.

Whether you’re spending time with family or playing a gig this weekend, please take pride in being a union member and part of the labor movement.

Happy Holiday!

Tino Gagliardi
