May 11-14 in Montreal
For the first time, the International Orchestra Conference will be held in North America. The Québec Musicians’ Guild (AFM Local 406) will host the conference presented by the International Federation of Musicians (FIM) in Montreal. Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin, recently named music director of the Metropolitan Opera, will serve as the official Ambassador of the conference which runs from May 11-14, 2017 in downtown Montreal at the Delta Hotel.
The conference aims to provide a venue for orchestral musicians from around the world to share their experiences, concerns and initiatives on issues such as such as:
- Improving workplace conditions
- Orchestra business models
- Player participation on orchestra boards
- Broadcasts, streaming and musicians’ performance rights
- Union representation
Among the conference participants will be many AFM musicians from Canada and the United States including International President Ray Hair. The conference promises to be a flagship cultural event held in conjunction with the 375th anniversary of the founding of Montreal. Get more information about the conference here.
