Houses Passes IP Legislation
The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly (410-11) passed the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property (PRO-IP) Act, H.R. 4279, on May 7. The legislation will considerably enhance the government’s ability to enforce copyright protections. The bill will create a senior office in the White House designed to coordinate all of the government’s copyright enforcement efforts, fund new prosecutors and law enforcement officers that will specialize in copyright protection and will increase penalties for stealing intellectual property. This bill is vital to the protection of intellectual property. The Senate is considering comparable legislation.
