Organizing and Education

The Organizing & Education Department (O&E) offers assistance in coordinating organizing campaigns and establishing local organizing and recruitment programs and maintains a field office in San Antonio, Texas. O&E also spearheads Latin organizing. We offer officer and member training and workshops in local areas.
O&E Objectives:
- Organize musicians to achieve union recognition and work under collective bargaining agreements.
- Develop a "culture of organizing" throughout the AFM that promotes organizing and collective action as the foundation for building a strong union.
- Expand AFM recruitment efforts and membership retention.
- Offer training and education to AFM local Officers and members about unionism primarily through the organizing experience.
- Support the AFM in improving solidarity with organized labor and actively participating in the revitalization of the labor movement.
-
Support the AFM in developing contacts with community-based organizations, and working in labor/community coalitions such as Jobs with Justice.
